Her birthday was celebrated @ a Middle East restaurant in Sri Petaling. Chai said she would fetch me from MV after work about 7pm but at the last minute, she was delayed & she arranged Jim to fetch me instead.
Jim didn’t know the exact location so we he sorta guessed the location. When he an idea of the restaurant, he exclaimed, “OOooh, I think I know it! IT’S VERY KUA JEONG!”
“Ha?”
“Very big, very expensive looking!”
When we found it, I was like, “Wa.” Nat suggested it. Bet she went there with her Indian bf. Sure, India is far from Middle East but they are not Oriental. No offense ok? Besides, she loves to try out new restaurants.
The signboard of the restaurant was huge, like those expensive restaurants. It’s in red & yellow. On 1st floor.
AL DIAFAH RESTAURANT
When we reached the table, birthday gal Jean was already there with Ed, Chai & Crocroach. I wanted to hug Jean but she was sitting inside, in between Ed & Crocroach so it was hard. Surprisingly, Jean’s (on off?) bf didn’t come. Settled beside Chai and she pointed to the dates on a plate. Took 1 gingerly. I prefer dates wet in a drink. But it was ok. The murky dull brown drink in a very small cup was coffee. Looked eeeek but it was ok, not something I would drink everyday. We were supposed to eat the dates with the coffee. It tastes different from the usual coffee because
It’s actually real coffee but not roasted. “We blend and boil the coffee beans in its original light state.”
They had already ordered 6 dishes so I didn’t order anything. I looked at the menu for a long time. Some chicken, lamb, rice, they even had spaghetti but who comes to a Middle East Restaurant for spaghetti?
When the dishes arrived, they looked… small. Each of us took a spoonful or 2. There were pita bread-like served together with each non-rice dish. We had so many baskets of those bread. They are not tasteless, but when mixed with the sauces/gravy & meat, they were delicious.
As others arrived, we ordered more food. Esp when Nat insisted on ordering 2 plates for each dish since Sam, ConstructionGuy (kungfu mate), Mic & FootballGal arrived. However, Mic & Foo ordered too! So when the plates of food arrived, we were baffled! The waiters were baffled too, either they brought more than enough plates or we had ordered again & again. They took back 1 plate but Mic took another plate. Being post pregnant.. she’s still hungry.
Eyyy, that night was 1 of the few nights that nobody brought along their bfs/gfs.
The restaurant gave Jean a big & long wrapped present when the cake arrived. She didn’t open it there but we made her give a speech, which she was reluctant to say. She said she wanted a birthday song in Chinese, so we sang Juk fuk nei.. It was so weird, singing a traditional Chinese birthday song in a Middle East restaurant. Nuts! I thought we must hv been the noisiest table there.
Blow, Jean. Blow harder. You have to work it.
- Ed.
The candles were specially made for tricks. It just reignite itself. :D
Jean exclaimed in surprised, “EH?!”
Some1 suggested 2nd round for karaoke.
She blew the candles repeatedly, “Aiyaa, so tired from blowing candles already. No more voice to sing karaoke.” Heheheeh.
With so much dishes we had ordered, we only had to pay about RM40 per head! :D
