Since when it isn’t the employers market?
Think about it. An employee (already working) is not satisfied with the company (benefits, environment, job responsibilities, etc) and look for work while still attached with the company. The jobless search for work.
A company, on the other hand, would not look for new employee unless it’s expanding or retrenching (hoping to get cheaper employees) or an employee found a better job/resigned.
So there are always more employees and people looking for work than employers with job vacancies.
Tomorrow, there’ll be 6th Career & Training Fair @ Mid Valley.

MCTF2007 chart - like the colours :)
There’s also 9th Post Graduate Education Fair at the same venue.
As much as I dislike JobsDB’s in listing our salary in all jobs, it’s website has Market Yourself at The Career Fair - if you are interested.
Click to see the companies that will be there and the jobs that await you.
But how effective is it to get a job from Career Fairs? Most of the exhibitors are from credit card, insurance/banking or IT companies looking for people to fill up the easy-come-easy-go positions - sales. Worse, some of these companies actually add your contact into their database as their potential spam. If they don’t want you as staff, you can be their customer. I had received some spams from such companies that I had given my resume to. It’s really unethical. These companies should ask if we wanted to be informed of any ‘updates’ (promotions, discounts, launches).
All the times I had been to Career Fairs, I had never left the fairs feeling impressed. There were a lot of staffs from the companies passing brochures (advertising their own products!) and some did keep your resume and interview you. How many of us hear from these companies after an interview or passing the application form there?
Of course, maybe we weren’t that good. Or too good - since some of us already have experience in the working world but the jobs offered have low requirements and don’t match what we expect (translation: low salary).
Ed Bagley - Career Fairs Best Serve Everyone But the Jobless
Among an interesting note in that article is:
Major companies that are cooking the books (using unacceptable accounting practices to inflate revenue and profits in order to increase stock prices so executives suck money out faster), and in worse shape than they want their stockholders and the public to know, would be at a Career Fair putting on their best face.
Just being at a Career Fair is good business for businesses and organizations because it gives the impression that those involved are key players in building the community, increasing employment, and acting like a good corporate citizen.
Mmm.. food for thought.

Career Fairs are essentially for the jobless. That is why jobseekers are treated like cattle.
But you have brought forth an interesting point , about the spam.
Food for thought.
Heard the recent Career Fair was lively with lots of freebies from companies. Btw, Ottayan, your link is invalid
