Birthday celebration I – Laundry (2007)

At 1st we went to TGIF since it was my real birthdate – could get free dessert cake ;) but we had to wait 15 min. So we walked around the area and saw The Apartment. Cool deco. I think I saw this before somewhere… I recognized the graph paper menu with a couple on the cover. The girl was so desperate and weak to put her head onto the guy that she was holding, the guy’s head actually bent to the other way. Talk about pathetic relationship where the female depend and stick to the guy, yuck!

I told Nat, “I saw this in a blog before!”
“Really?” She turned to me. “Good?”

“I forgot.”

Sooyin – Food review: The Apartment

The other graphics are nice, like furniture and fixtures. There’s no picture of the food though.

Unfortunately, after directing us to an empty table, we browsed through the menu and looked for someone to order. There was no one looking our way at all even though there were 2 people standing at the entrance. So Nat complained, “Let’s switch place. No service at all.”

We walked further and came to Italiannies. Full house so we headed to Laundry / Laundry Bar. Laundry’s food is from Italiannies. Italiannies is from TGIF.

Got a table there after standing a minute but there weren’t enough waiters.

We ordered Grape and Mango fresh fruit smoothie/shake but the mango wasn’t available so we changed it to Strawberry. When Grape arrived, it was sweet. After drinking 1/2 of Strawberry, we decided Strawberry tasted better. :p

The tomato chicken thing was delicious – especially the sauce – and we tried the new salad, which was nice too: not too sour or sweet :D

Unlike TGIF, Italiannies and Laundry do not give free dessert if it’s your birthday. Sam, who had worked at TGIF, kept asking the waiter, “Really no dessert? Anything special you can do for my friend’s birthday?”

“Ahhh we have tiramisu cake.”

“Free?”

“Charge.”

Haha. Sam was so persistent!

She even asked the waiter, “Who is your manager?”

“He’s not in here,” he quickly replied.

“What is his name?”

The waiter repeated, “He’s not here.”

“I know. What is his name?”

He reluctantly disclosed the manager of the night’s name.

“I know him. OK OK.”

Really, no special or free cake, that was fine with me.

Felt guilty about leaving TGIF after we put the name for queue list and didn’t inform the staff. When I passed by TGIF later to go to the washroom, I saw a guy stared hard at me. Maybe I was paranoid..

The service at Laundry was really slow like when you signal a staff for attention. The drinks took sometime to reach our table too. Once the 1st dish was cooked, the 2nd came quite fast.

The person who passed the receipt to us put the wrong receipt on top. There was a bunch of other receipts together. I think by right, they shouldn’t include other receipts together. What if customer use another receipt which has the lower value?

Sam took the big note but not the change of RM4.

Nat demanded, “Why didn’t you take the RM4?! Service sucks and still want to give tip! Got service tax already ma!”

In Malaysia, the service and government tax charged to the customers are a bit unfair because shouldn’t the company pay them? Nooo.. they push the charges to the consumers. Just like MAS making money but putting the costs back to the passengers. Good for the big owners, laugh all the way to the bank :)

Then, the service tax (as tips) does not go to the staffs but the company. So the only way they can earn more $ is by hoping customers tip them personally.

“RM4 only ma,” Sam said non-chalantly.

“RM4 is a lot for tip ah!” Nat exclaimed, totally not satisfied with Sam wasting their money.

“I’ve been waitress before I know it’s very hard. Give them tip when you get bad service, they’ll feel guilty and wipe the table, give you more water,” Sam bent her head down and gestured wiping the table diligently.

Why reward bad service? When you expect them to perform, they would perform as expected (later) even though they suck now?
