PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III)

Thinking that PC Fair started at 10am, I woke up early to take bus to KLCC yesterday. For the 1st time, I used Touch N Go to buy RapidKL bus ticket. There was no paper ticket given if you use Touch N Go card.

When I reached KLCC, I saw throngs of people walking towards the convention centre. At the food court, lots of people were standing at the escalator. 2 guards checked the entrance to the escalator.

If you = staff,
you can enter,
else you wait till 11am.

The 1st hall that you get to enter are all bigshots in IT industry followed by boom boom room (loud audio), another hall of bigshots and the last hall is a mix of bigshots & smallshots companies. Big companies like HP, Dell, Sony and Canon have several booths in different halls. I wonder how much they spent on renting the space, hiring contractors to build the sets, hire promoters, print brochures.. I wonder how much they made mmm…

PIKOM PC Fair 2007 (III) Show Guide front cover Kungfu MYCNX
There’s a booklet of Show Guide at the entrance of either 1st or 2nd hall, I forgot. It has maps of each halls and a few pages on promotions. Not a fan of such games but the graphics look nice on the back cover.
My target: notebook, digital camera and handphone

OMG! It was so tempting… so many lower prices (from a hundred to more!), freebies aaaah! :D

Like the previous PC Fairs, there are mix of part timers, promoters, models (hey, some of them are product promoters and they are gorgeous, trained in products specs – not bimbo) and old experienced staffs. As the main customers are consumers from home and SMB, the atmosphere is relaxed and loud esp for the last hall. You’ll hear shouts from different booths for their promotions :D

If you are going on the last minute (a few hrs before closing), you’ll witness competitors shouting louder, some using loudspeaker, whistles, stand on top of chairs, etc! You can also bargain for lower prices – even for MNC – because they definately do not want to carry those heavy products back to their companies after 3 days of hard work!

Olympus PC Fair
Olympus, 1 of the giant companies in digital camera has many promotions for the cameras! The brochure is of thicker paper too.

Maxis Broadband
Maxis broadband’s modem is super small, like a thumbdrive size and it’s portable to carry around. During the promotion, the modem is free.

Pentax digital camera promotions
Pentax’s Optio E40 has Panorama mode – you take 3 pictures where the 2nd & 3rd screen have indicator of where the previous object was, so you’ll know where to shoot the 2nd & 3rd picture. The macro is very clear :)

FujiFilm FinePix
Suddenly an ex-colleague, Dragon something called out my name. He was working part time here and his colleague explained the a lot of the features in A820 – which was selling at RM499, not RM599.

“We have the technology to match with print photo – Super CCD. Not many companies have this. Now only left Kodak and us from the film to digital. “

The macro isn’t as clear as Pentax Optio but it has more modes and good ambience. It doesn’t have Panorama though.

“You don’t need that! Just shoot several with tripod and edit yourself. Crop the top and bottom only!” 1 of the oldest staff @ Fujifilm said.

 Dopod promotions
A very young Dopod promoter explained the special features of Dopod 838 Pro and pitched, “Because you are my 1st customer today, I’m going to give you special deals.” This has a keypad for typing, below the front cover which you slide it out from the side to open.

Logic Case notebook bags
Logic Case has some bright laptop bags but none with artistic designs, unlike overseas. It looks thin but it’s stretchable.

Asus Amazing White
Asus Amazing White looks stylish and modern, much like a cosmetic case.

The most captivating brochure IMO :)
Sony Vaio CR
I want! I want! I want! The Gold Premium one, please! If the $ necklace is thrown in too, I wouldn’t mind too much hehe.

However, the gold colour wasn’t that apparent when I saw the actual notebook itself. Disappointed.

When I have my own notebook, I’ll buy those glittering Swarovski stick ons and decorate the cover :D

Leaving KLCC for Bukit Bintang (Sungei Wang area), I got into RapidKL bus only to be rejected by the Touch N Go sensor because I got into another Bandar bus! Apparently, you can only take back the same bus name, like B105, the whole day if you use Touch N Go! What’s the point of using Touch N Go then? I’d rather pay with cash – I can take any same category bus for the whole day instead!
