A few weeks after I started work at new place (old place actually), 1 of my colleagues were getting married. She had been dating that guy for ages and they were eyeing each other when they were kids! She was having wedding buffet dinner at her (and husband’s) home.
The invitation card is cool! It’s just like a bookmark inside a open envelope in shiny old gold. Special and different from other red red cards.
Like the department dinner, BraveSafe had to fetch DHL. This time, from DHL’s home nearby ours.
I felt unwell because I had been Going round & round and wanted to cancel but if I do, BraveSafe would have to go alone with DHL. According to DHL, who had worked in Cheras, she knew the way to the wedding buffet.
I called BraveSafe and she answered my phone like she was sleeping. She was! :D That meant we would be going to Gem’s place late. Then I’d have more time to go home and hopefully, take a nap 1st.
“I’m ..verrrrrrry.. tired.. also.. arrr..” She moaned.
“Let’s go later larh.”
“Ok.”
We had forgotten to inform DHL. I got home and quickly bathe, then I would jump onto bed and drop dead.
No such luck. As I was shampooing my hair, BraveSafe called, “Coming in 20minutes ahh.”
Later, BraveSafe asked me on the way to DHL’s house, “You know the way?”
“Yah, just go straight here.”
“Cross the road ar?”
“Yes, straight even after the traffic light.”
We both stared ahead.
“Got 2 blocks woh.”
Errr.. We had come from the other side last night and was it the 1st block?
Green light. She drove on and we had passed by the 1st block.
“Where ar?”
I saw dark red awning! “This 1!” I pointed suddenly, happy that I remembered where she stay.
“Now you call her lah.”
BraveSafe answered in deadpan, “She doesn’t have handphone.”
“HA?!”
“Home phone?” I asked hopefully.
“No,” BraveSafe shook her head firmly, “Don’t have.”
^_ Who doesn’t have a phone these days? What about emergency?
“So how does she know we’re here?” I asked her.
“She told me to drive down there and honk.”
“Ha? So many cars, how will she know it’s your car honk?”
“I presume she said I should drive in to right below her lot and honk. How do I turn?”
“Ha? Just honk now lar. You’ll have to U-turn if you want to go into the apartment. I didn’t see any entrance from the main road here…”
She honked and a shadow flickered behind the curtains. Then the window was opened and I shouted to BraveSafe, “Faster open the window show your face!”
BraveSafe pressed down her window and waved at DHL. We saw DHL look out at us and then the window was closed. We assumed she saw us and was coming down.
A moment later, she lurked at the window again. BraveSafe stuck her hand out and waved widely again.
We glued our eyes onto her unit but nobody crossed the road.
*Knock knock*
BraveSafe jumped in her seat. DHL had knocked on her car window at the back. “Aiyo, scared me to death!” BraveSafe exclaimed, patting her heart.
When DHL slid in, BraveSafe and I asked, “Didn’t see you cross the road?”
“Oooo the staircase and lift is there, at the back.”
When we reached Cheras, DHL suddenly disclosed, “OK I only know how to reach till here.”
We turned slowly to her. HA?!
She didn’t know the whole way to the place?! DANG DANG DANG!
We got lost at several turns and BraveSafe was getting angry. She insisted that someone from the dinner come to find us and guide us to the place.
Car said, “People just arrived and just started to eat. I can’t ask them to go out now.. and fetch you. You can just turn in after the petrol station. Straight.”
We turned in, couldn’t find the place. I called Car again and we rounded the area again. As we passed by the same road earlier, I noticed lights at the end of a block. Found it!
DHL & BraveSafe didn’t believe me and BraveSafe didn’t want to try to go down that road. “Get someone to come pick us up lar?! There are so many people there!”
Yes but you still have to let people finish eating. Perhaps she had been spoilt by her friends – she claimed her friends would find her and guide her back home if she’s lost!
Car found Sop’s husband to guide us from the petrol station. “I hope Sop wouldn’t mind..”
“Why would she mind?” Sop’s a kind hearted gal and generous too.
