Testing fragrance

The other day while shopping, I saw the new fragrance from Estee Lauder at Metrojaya and decided to try it. I had loved Pure White Linen for the fresh smell and the simple blue shell. I uncapped the cover and immediately an Indian lady wearing Metrojaya uniform appeared beside me! She grabbed the bottle from me and asked me, “You want to try this?”

I nodded, “Yes.” I held out my wrist facing up for her to spray.

She shook her head and took out the rectangular piece of paper.

I told her, “I want to spray on my skin to test.”

She shook her head firmly and insisted, “I spray on the paper so that you can smell it when you go home.”

I stood on my ground. Did she know that that body smell & fragrance create a different smell altogether? Looked like she took her role as a sales staff too seriously and rigid. I already preferred to test fragrances on skin, not on paper and she didn’t want to oblige.

To test fragrance:

  • test it on pulse points like neck, wrist, behind the ear
  • test it on the area you would normally wear. Some people wear it on their b- chest, some on calves
  • never test on clothes as the alcohol content could leave yellow stain on the clothes
  • spraying on the paper is useful for later reference or when you have several options on hand.

Sure, I could be just another free loader wanting to smell great without paying for it. But what if I were to buy the fragrance based on the smell on the paper or from the bottle but it smells different after mixing with my womanly scent? :p Who’s going to refund my money?

After spraying for me on the paper & my wrist, she brought the bottle close to her face to smell it. She asked, “Nice?”

I nodded, “Nice. Thanks.” I turned to walk away. I didn’t notice if she sprayed it on herself or her nose touched the nozzle. All I knew was I would certainly not buy from her.

PotatoGal’s house warming

On the same day as L’Oreal Warehouse Sales & etc, PotatoGal’s house warming was in the evening till night.

I had bought 2 pretty colourful bowls about 2 weeks before the event which I almost wanted to get for myself except that I have 3 bowls to use at home already. Obviously I couldn’t bring the bowls to the warehouse sale - I’d had to compete *ahem* - there would be lots of people - boy, too many people on the actual day! - the bowls would just get in the way. Even putting bowls at the bags counter wouldn’t be safe.

After shopping at the warehouse sale, I headed back to Times Square to buy PotatoGal’s house warming gift.  Target: plush toys. The 1st target was the kiosk at GSC floor - there were signs of RM9 each and the staffs always offer discount but there were mostly CJ-7 toys. Uh. I’m not into CJ-7 the cute dog or the toy but the movie was ok. Not sure about PotatoGal.

Then I walked up another floor and found the loolipop lolipop/ hit people flush toy in red. It was either that or light pink (nice but easy to get dirty) and black (not so good, not sure if PotatoGal / family were superstitious as old thinking Chinese associate black with death).

Not enough time already! PotatoGal called to say she would pick me up at Monorail soon.

Asked the staff at C&J to fold the big box & put my gift inside. Now I had to carry the big box and my purchases from the sale!

At the station, when I saw PotatoGal in her car, I got in. At the same time, another girl got into the car with me! Turned out we were waiting at the same time & place hehe. It was her cousin (or something).

Her new home was somewhere deep in Cheras! It was so far inside that I wouldn’t be able to go there alone the next time. Actually on the 2nd time when I went there, it was quite easy, albeit long journey.

Mmm.. mmm.. seemed someone had a target or already dating!

The renovated home was gorgeous! So many people - her relatives from the kampung came - were in the new home. It was the 1st day! All the furnitures were new & matching.

Only I was there… I watched some shows shown on the tv with other people & wished my ex-colleagues from the fashion company would arrive quickly. No such luck. I endured a tv show called Young Guns (or sth like that) from Taiwan featuring B & C Grade actors & actresses. OK, not fair to say B & C Grade but I had never seen them in any popular tv dramas. It was pretty sexist. There was a game where you need to break up/off with the other person in a opposite sex pairing. Both contestants have to wear jackets with velcro straps. The guys were quite violent and they were with bulky muscles already. Grr. In another game, 1 group has to go into a snow room, ride the slide, eat ice cream, find an item in an ice bucket without jacket. The other has to eat spicy food only. Please. Those girls who had to go into the snow room had big breasts in skimpy clothes (low cut spaghetti dresses or tubes).

When Smooth Operator arrived, I had already eaten the buffet food. We waited for the others to arrive.. Supervisor (nick only since she left the company already) and Hairstylist came to the area & got lost, then decided to go home. What lah!

So Smooth Operator told us, “See my ear? 1 day I looked into the mirror and see my ear only 1 side got earring.” He turned his head left & right, preening in front of an invisible mirror in front of him.

“It looked not balance. So I went to pierce the other side. Immediately,” he clapped his hands, “my manager treat me better. My manager is,” he waved his hand effiminately, “gay one. He’s very bad one. Only treat gay guys nice. The ladies ahh.. always kena from him. Then oh, those other brands promoters come to my shop & cup my butt ask, “Eh, mau main?” I reply, “Tak mau!” They ask, “Betul tak mau? Mari lah..” Eeeee!”

I asked him, “You didn’t know pierce on right side means you are gay or open to guys?”

“I didn’t!!”

From my gay friends, they confided that the first thing that they check out is the earring side on a guy. Besides the crotch haha. Of course, not all gay guys are like them.

So if you are heterosexual, best not to puncture your ear on the right unless you want to give gay vibes out ;)
