Stop dog culling & start TNR.. anything but senseless killing

Dog culling

Ever since Penang’s Lim Guan Eng announced that Penang would start dog culling, there had been lots of complaints and suggestions. Positive and negative. Bear in mind, while Penang had been vocal and transparent about it (sort of), other states like Kedah & Perlis had already started dog culling without announcement to the public.

Dog culling, catching dogs & killing them on the spot, catching dogs and dumping them in City Hall facilities or to NGO shelters… and even a remote area are nothing new before there was announcement of rabies outbreak.

Save Our Strays (SOS) – PenangThis morning 845am MBPP dog catchers at Maccallum. The Chinese guy in this video saw Mbpp dog catcher and guide them to other area to catch more dogs. Owner, pls go claim this dog asap from River Road.

This video is just 1 of them. There are rescuers and feeders who work very hard to feed and catch strays, some even neutered the strays with own pocket money – only to have the strays caught, some killed.

What outbreak?

How many people had been suspected and confirmed with rabies? Out of the ones who did have rabies and not saying it’s not a serious health problem, how many citizens are there in Malaysia? How many % were infected?

freemalaysiatoday – NGO: Penang culls 1,711 strays due to 4 rabies cases

While rabies had been confirmed with less than 1 hand count (<=5 fingers) in Oct 2015, contractors are still catching and killing strays with glee. It’s like they are so happy with a license to kill and have so much hate for stray dogs.

Such a happy puppy. Not every stray is dangerous.

Cruelty  How did we end up being a nation that allows killing homeless animals, especially dogs when we wanted to be modern? How can we evolve as human beings when we don’t care about other people and lives? Killing dogs with blood all over the place – how does this remove rabies? How does catching and dumping dogs into remote areas – dead or alive solve rabies? How does killing solve stray problems? Country had been catching and killing strays for years. Has it been effective? If yes, then we wouldn’t have this problem today.

I was pro-vaccination. It’s better than dog culling. Why didn’t the government buy more vaccines? Why didn’t the government use the vaccines available to help the dogs? Why didn’t the government allow NGO and help from outside? Was there red tape? Did gov know the vaccine were just another decoy for sth else that the public is unaware of?

On the other hand, vaccination could just be another vehicle by the medical and pharmacy industry to profit without actually improving the health of dogs.

What are other solutions?

  1. Have neighbourhood dogs – treat the strays as neighbourhood dogs instead. Every housing street and shoplots share to feed, bathe and neuter the dogs.
  2. Every home (or selected home, randomly, etc) adopt a stray.
  3. Provide incentive for adopters, fosters, rescuers and shelters.
  4. Mobile clinic for neutering dogs.
  5. Education and practice to take care of animals instead of dumping animals when they are no longer cute, healthy or human are moving house, too busy, etc. Open mindedness and compassion.
  6. Cheaper medicine/health care, food & welfare for strays and rescues.
  7. Allow more than 1 dog per terrace house and allow dogs in apartment/condo/flat provided dogs are quiet and being taken care of.
  8. We take action instead of hoping others will take action.
  9. My Dailyhoroscope already told me: ideas that I have are not the only possible solutions. There are more and better ideas by the people :)

Nose warehouse sale & Big Bad Wolf Sale

Heard positive & negative comments about Nose warehouse sales in FB. Previously I had bad experience with RSH security guard a few years back – he didn’t allow me to enter though there was still 5-10minutes before closing. Since then, I had banned going to Nose or RSH warehouse sales.

Decided to end the ban since I was already in PJ area heading to Big Bad warehouse sale – need to pass through Subang Jaya anyway.

Some available parking inside the warehouse area. The sales area is disappointedly small. Only about 2-4 offer bins per size and the shoes were just thrown into the offer bin. Most of the shoes conditions were worse than pasar mlm, with marks inside and outside the shoes.

The bags were in better condition but not my type. Saw some really serious bling bling :)

I bought 1 of the silver sequins dinner purse. RM20 only!

Saw some Africans buying in boxes. Maybe taking them back home to relatives or sell again? Some guys shopped with gf too.

Next to Big Bad sale. Ah it’s quite far even from Sunway area. As usual, Jln Kewajipan was jammed like ****. I took the other way (right) and just before a small sign to MAEPS on left, I went straight and toured Putrajaya. Quite a lot of trees and wide roads. Not a bad place to live. If Malaysia were not racially misaligned.

Good thing about MAEPS/Big Bad sale was there were lots of feeder bus from car park (Hall A on the sign) to the almost entrance! Kudos to organizers for making it convenient and safe for customers.

Found lots of my favourite authors. Grabbed them (almost all). LJ Smith’s books (not Vampire Diaries series) but I wasn’t sure if I had read them before years ago? They sounded familiar… then there was JD Robb. OMG ALL PAPERBACKS in big fonts that my mom will find it easy to read! Then there was Iris Johansen & Sherrilyn Kenyon! At that time, I had about 10+ books.

Then mom SMS that it would be better if I buy books that cannot be rented. Usually and all these years, we had been renting books from Central Market. The Indian guys are ok though once in awhile, they may charge more. Not sure if they deliberately wanted to eat more $ or they were getting old? Rental’s RM2-6 normally but you need to give deposit, which is fair because you’d never know when customers don’t return the books.

So in the end, I ended up with these:

Edie Jarolim – Am I boring my dog?
David Bach – Smart Women Finish Rich
Sherrilyn Kenyon – Acheron
Janet Evanovich – Wicked Appetite
Robert & Emi Kiyosaki – Rich Brother Rich Sister

I think I may have read part of Smart Women in Borders before.. And I don’t remember if I had read Acheron’s book but I had certainly read about him before with Simi. Anyway, I can reread. Acheron’s 1 of my fav characters in the Dark-Hunter novels :)

Too bad no mag that I liked.

All books that I bought were RM8 each, except Smart Women Finish Rich at RM10. SO WORTH IT!

Delicious, BSC lunch

The only constant food when colleagues & I go to Delicious would be the pesto (green spaghetti) & Pavlova (strawberry & cream cheese in hard “thing” at the bottom).

The other day, I tried Red Velvet as our ex-colleague had sweeten us up with her homemade version. This 1 from Delicious? Couldn’t top up my ex-colleagues :p

Pesto was really salty. So we needed sth sweet to counter the saltiness.

Red Velvet’s top is THICK cream cheese. If you are only eating 1 dessert to fill your short break, then RV might be it. If you are eating full meal & other desserts, this will be too much.

Delicious, Bangsar Village II

I’ll upload the original pics when freer.
